Facts about the ENHA
Today, malnutrition is not given the place it deserves on national or European policy agendas. Nutrition strategy has all too often concentrated on dealing with the problem of over-nutrition (i.e. obesity) which is indeed very important; however, the equally important problem of malnutrition has been largely neglected.
It is against this background that a group of stakeholders from across the health arena have formed the European Nutrition for Health Alliance (ENHA) in a united effort to raise awareness of the importance and the urgency of the issue of malnutrition and to build an agenda for action at the European level.
The Alliance is chaired by Professor Jean-Pierre Baeyens, President of the clinical section of the International Association of Gerontology (IAG) and of the European Union Geriatric Medicine Society (EUGMS). Co-Chairs are Professor Olle Ljungqvist, Chair of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) and Professor Claude Pichard, Head of Clinical Nutrition at Geneva University Hospital.
Other members of the Alliance are Mel Read, Chair of Health First Europe and Former Member of the European Parliament as well as representatives from:
• Association Internationale de la Mutualité (AIM)
• European Hospital and Healthcare Federation (HOPE)
• European Nursing Directors Association (ENDA)
• International Longevity Centre-UK
• Medical Nutrition International Industry (MNI)
• European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD)
ENHA does not solely focus its activities on changing political priorities. Aiming further than this, the Alliance is dedicated to implementing change across Europe. In order to achieve this, ENHA strives to serve as a bridge across professional and sectoral divides and to unite and support physicians and other health care professionals, hospitals, healthcare managers, health insurers, industry, advocacy institutions, and policy-makers in the fight against malnutrition.
