New EU project to address malnutrition
Initiative led by the University of Bologna
Date: 31 August 2011
A new EU funded project called CHANCE aims to use low cost technologies and traditional ingredients to develop the production of affordable, nutritionally correct foods to improve health in population groups at risk of poverty.
The project, which began in February 2011 estimates that 81 million EU citizens are at risk of poverty and its associated low purchasing power, lower levels of education and higher risk of developing diseases related to poor nutrition. The project has already identified women and older people as two groups at risk of poverty that require special concern.
The project is being led by the University of Bologna in collaboration with thirteen other partners across the EU, including academic institutes and food companies. For more information, please see: chancefood.eu
